Invisalign i7 in Wilmslow

Seven aligners, around three months, for minor front tooth corrections. And an honest assessment of whether that will be enough for your teeth.

Invisalign i7 uses seven clear aligners to correct minor irregularities in the front teeth, typically over around three months. It is the fastest and least expensive Invisalign option and suits a narrow range of cases, usually slight crowding, a small gap, or minor relapse after previous orthodontic treatment. It cannot correct significant crowding or bite problems. At Croft Dental on Manchester Road in Wilmslow, Invisalign i7 is provided by Dr Natasja Kashyap, a Platinum Invisalign Provider. The ClinCheck simulation shows the predicted result before treatment is agreed, and retainers are required afterwards.

So, is seven aligners going to be enough?

That is the question this page exists to answer honestly, and the answer is often no.

Invisalign i7 is the cheapest and quickest option, and for that reason it is the one people ask for by name. Somebody has read that Invisalign starts at a certain price and they arrive wanting that one.

The problem is that seven aligners is not very many.

Each aligner moves the teeth a small, controlled amount. Seven of them adds up to a modest total movement, concentrated on the front teeth. That is enough to refine, and nowhere near enough to correct.

So i7 is for the tooth that sits slightly out of line. The small gap. The front teeth that have drifted a little since braces twenty years ago. If you look in the mirror and can point at one or two teeth that are marginally off, i7 may well be exactly right.

If your reaction is that your teeth are generally crooked, or your bite is not right, it will not be. And no amount of wanting it to be changes that.

Why some practices sell it anyway

Because it converts easily. A patient asks the price, hears the lowest number, books.

Six months later they are looking at a result that has not achieved what they were picturing, and the conversation about upgrading to comprehensive treatment happens then. After they have already paid once.

How we handle it

Dr Natasja will scan your teeth and show you the predicted outcome before you commit to anything. If seven aligners will not get you where you want to be, you will see that in the simulation, and she will recommend Lite or comprehensive treatment instead.

That may mean a larger fee than you were hoping for. It also means you get the result you came in for.

What Invisalign i7 can correct

  • Minor front tooth crowding: where one or two front teeth sit slightly out of line but the arch is broadly well aligned.
  • Small gaps between front teeth: a single modest space, or slight spacing across the front teeth.
  • Minor relapse after previous orthodontics: the most common use of i7. Teeth straightened years ago that have shifted slightly because retainers stopped being worn. Where the movement has been small, i7 frequently corrects it.
  • Small rotations: a tooth turned slightly, within a few degrees.
  • Pre cosmetic refinement: making a small correction before bonding or veneers, so the restorative work sits on teeth in the right position. Sometimes a very small amount of movement makes a substantial difference to what the cosmetic work can achieve.

What Invisalign i7 cannot do

We would rather say this here than at your consultation after your hopes are up.

  • Significant crowding, where teeth substantially overlap
  • Bite problems, including overbite, underbite, crossbite and open bite
  • Movement of the back teeth
  • Rotations of more than a few degrees
  • Large gaps
  • Anything requiring the teeth to move a meaningful distance

For any of those, Invisalign Lite or comprehensive treatment would be recommended instead.

Am I a suitable candidate?

Usually suitable if you

  • Have very mild irregularity limited to the front teeth
  • Have a small gap you want closed
  • Had orthodontic treatment previously and your teeth have shifted slightly
  • Have healthy teeth and gums, or issues that can be treated first
  • Are prepared to wear the aligners 20 to 22 hours a day
  • Are prepared to wear retainers afterwards, indefinitely

i7 will not be suitable if you

  • Have moderate or significant crowding
  • Have a bite that needs correcting
  • Need any movement of the back teeth
  • Have gaps beyond the modest range
  • Want a comprehensive change to how your smile looks

We will need to assess further if you

  • Have active gum disease or decay, which must be treated first
  • Have crowns, bridges or implants on the teeth being moved, since these do not move like natural teeth
  • Have significant bone loss around the teeth

On wear time

Three months is short, but the aligners still need to be in for 20 to 22 hours a day.

A shorter course does not mean a more forgiving one. With only seven aligners there is very little margin for lost progress, so a fortnight of leaving them out matters proportionally more here than it would in a twelve month treatment.

Your treatment journey

  1. 1
    Step one: your consultation
Around 45 minutes and free of charge. Dr Natasja examines your teeth, gums and bite, and asks what you want to change. She will tell you whether i7 is sufficient or whether your case needs more.
  2. 2
Step two: digital scan and ClinCheck
A digital scan is taken, quick and considerably more comfortable than putty impressions. From it, a stage by stage plan is produced showing how your teeth will move across the seven aligners.
  3. 3
Step three: seeing your predicted result
This step matters more for i7 than for any other option, because it is where you find out whether seven aligners will achieve what you want.

You see the simulated final position before committing to anything. If it falls short, you can upgrade to Lite or comprehensive treatment at that point, rather than after paying for a course that will not deliver.
  4. 4
    Step four: your written plan
Number of aligners, timeline, total cost, whether refinements are included, retainer costs and finance options. Nothing proceeds until you have agreed.
  5. 5
    Step five: any preparatory treatment
Decay and gum disease are treated first. Aligners are not fitted over untreated problems.
  6. 6
Step six: fitting your first aligners
Small tooth coloured attachments may be bonded to some teeth so the aligners can apply pressure in the right direction. They are removed at the end.
  7. 7
    Step seven: the treatment phase
Change aligners every one to two weeks. With only seven aligners the whole course runs to around three months, and review appointments are usually fewer than with longer treatments.
  8. 8
    Step eight: refinements
If the result needs slight fine tuning, a short additional series may be provided. Your plan will state whether this is included.
  9. 9
    Step nine: retainers
Fitted at the end and worn indefinitely.

Retention still applies

Short treatment does not mean short retention. Teeth drift back after any orthodontic movement, and i7 results relapse just as readily as comprehensive ones.

This is particularly relevant for i7 patients

A large proportion of i7 cases are patients whose teeth relapsed after previous orthodontic treatment. If retainers were not maintained the first time, the same thing will happen again.

Straightening the same teeth twice and then not retaining them is money spent twice for nothing.

What is involved

  • Fixed retainer: a fine wire bonded behind the front teeth, £150 per arch
  • Removable retainer: clear trays worn at night, from £400 for Vivera retainers

For how long

Indefinitely. Most people reduce to a few nights a week after the first year, but it does not stop.

Worth noting on cost

Because i7 is the least expensive treatment, retainer costs represent a larger proportion of the total than they would with a longer course. Your written plan will make clear what is and is not included.

Dr Natasja provides Invisalign at Croft Dental as a Platinum Provider, treating everything from minor i7 corrections through to comprehensive cases.

That range is precisely what allows a reliable judgement about whether a case fits within seven aligners. A practice that only offers the entry option has an obvious incentive to say yes. A practice that treats the full spectrum can afford to tell you when the answer is no.

Her Master’s degree is in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics, which is relevant where i7 is being used to refine tooth position before bonding or veneers. The movement is planned around the cosmetic work that follows rather than separately from it.

Spread the cost of Invisalign i7 with finance

We offer finance on Invisalign through Tabeo so the cost can be spread across monthly payments. Interest-free options are available with no arrangement fees or hidden charges.

Applications take a few minutes and you will know the outcome quickly. We will show you exactly what your treatment would cost per month at your consultation.

Frequently asked questions

Invisalign i7 is a short course of clear aligner treatment using seven aligners, typically completed in around three months. It uses the same aligners and technique as other Invisalign treatments but is limited to minor corrections of the front teeth, such as slight crowding, a small gap, or minor relapse after previous orthodontic treatment.

Invisalign i7 corrects minor irregularities in the front teeth, including slight crowding, small gaps, minor rotations and small amounts of relapse after previous orthodontic treatment. It cannot correct significant crowding, bite problems including overbite or underbite, movement of the back teeth, or large gaps, all of which require Invisalign Lite or comprehensive treatment.

Invisalign i7 typically takes around three months, since it uses seven aligners changed every one to two weeks. Treatment relies on the aligners being worn 20 to 22 hours a day, and reduced wear time extends the treatment period.

Invisalign i7 is the least expensive Invisalign option because it uses the fewest aligners. At Croft Dental the consultation is free and the ClinCheck treatment plan is £325, at which point an exact quote is given. Patients requiring more movement than seven aligners allow are quoted for Invisalign Lite or comprehensive treatment instead.

Invisalign i7 uses seven aligners and treats only minor front tooth corrections over around three months. Invisalign Lite uses fourteen aligners across both arches and treats mild to moderate cases over around six months, including more crowding and spacing than i7 can address. The appropriate option is determined by the amount of tooth movement required, assessed from a digital scan.

Yes, indefinitely. Teeth drift back towards their previous position after any orthodontic treatment, regardless of how short the treatment was. Many i7 cases are patients whose teeth relapsed after earlier orthodontic treatment where retainers were not maintained, and the same relapse will occur again without retention.

The ClinCheck simulation shows the predicted final position before treatment is agreed, so any shortfall is visible at that stage rather than at the end. Where seven aligners will not achieve the desired result, Invisalign Lite or comprehensive treatment is recommended instead. As a rough guide, i7 suits cases where one or two front teeth sit slightly out of line rather than cases where the teeth are generally crooked.
