Invisalign Lite in Wilmslow
Fourteen aligners, around six months, for cases that need more than a quick fix but less than the full course.
Invisalign Lite is a shorter course of clear aligner treatment for mild to moderate cases, using fourteen aligners across both arches rather than the full comprehensive series. It suits patients with modest crowding or spacing, and those whose teeth have drifted after previous orthodontic treatment. Treatment typically takes around six months, considerably less than comprehensive Invisalign, and is priced accordingly. At Croft Dental on Manchester Road in Wilmslow, Invisalign Lite is provided by Dr Natasja Kashyap, a Platinum Invisalign Provider. Retainers are required afterwards, with Vivera retainers at £400 and fixed retainers at £150 per arch.
So, which Invisalign do you actually need?
This is the question most people arrive with, and it is usually answered badly.
The three options look, from the outside, like a price list. Seven aligners for the cheapest. Unlimited aligners for the most expensive. Something in the middle. And the natural instinct is to work out which one you can afford and ask for that.
It does not work that way, and it is worth understanding why before you enquire anywhere.
Invisalign Lite uses the same aligners, the same material and the same technique as comprehensive treatment. It is not a lower grade product. The only difference is the number of aligners in the series, and that number determines how far the teeth can move.
Fourteen aligners across both arches will move teeth a moderate amount. Not a little, not a lot. Which means Lite is right for a specific kind of case, and wrong for the ones either side of it.
Where Lite sits between the options
Invisalign i7- uses seven aligners and treats very minor front tooth corrections. Quick and inexpensive, but narrow in scope.
Invisalign Lite -uses fourteen aligners across both arches, suitable for mild to moderate cases. Around six months for most patients.
Invisalign Full – has no practical limit on aligner numbers and handles comprehensive cases, including significant bite correction. Twelve to eighteen months or longer.
The honest position on which you need
Patients frequently arrive hoping for i7, because it is the cheapest and quickest. In a good number of those cases seven aligners will not achieve what they are picturing, and delivering it anyway would mean a compromised result and a disappointed patient.
Equally, plenty of people are quoted comprehensive treatment elsewhere for cases that Lite would handle perfectly well.
Dr Natasja will tell you which your case genuinely needs after scanning your teeth. The answer is determined by the movement required, not by budget.
What Invisalign Lite can correct
- Mild to moderate crowding: where front teeth overlap or sit slightly rotated, but the crowding is not severe enough to need comprehensive treatment.
- Small to moderate gaps: closing spaces between the front teeth, which usually gives a better long term result than disguising them with bonding.
- Relapse after previous orthodontics: one of the most common uses of Lite. Teeth straightened years ago that have drifted back because retainers were not maintained. These cases are frequently straightforward and finish quickly.
- Minor bite refinement: small adjustments to how the teeth meet, within limits.
- Alignment before cosmetic work: straightening the teeth first so that less bonding or fewer veneers are needed afterwards. Lite frequently turns a large veneer case into a modest bonding one, which is often the most valuable thing it does.
Where Invisalign Lite is not enough
- Significant crowding requiring substantial movement
- Meaningful bite correction
- Cases where the back teeth need moving
- Rotations of more than a few degrees across multiple teeth
- Skeletal discrepancies
For any of those, comprehensive Invisalign or fixed braces would be recommended instead.
Am I a suitable candidate?
Usually suitable if you
- Have mild to moderate crowding or spacing, mainly at the front
- Have had orthodontic treatment previously and your teeth have moved back
- Have healthy teeth and gums, or issues that can be treated first
- Have all your adult teeth
- Are prepared to wear the aligners 20 to 22 hours a day
- Are prepared to wear retainers afterwards, indefinitely
We will need to assess further if you
- Have active gum disease or decay, which must be treated first
- Have significant crowding, where Lite may not provide sufficient movement
- Have a bite problem requiring correction, which usually needs comprehensive treatment
- Have crowns, bridges or implants, since these do not move like natural teeth and change how a case is planned
- Have significant bone loss around the teeth, which affects how safely they can be moved
On wear time
Lite works on exactly the same principle as comprehensive treatment. The aligners need to be in for 20 to 22 hours a day.
A shorter course does not mean a more relaxed one. If anything, with only fourteen aligners there is less margin for lost progress than in a longer treatment.
If you know that will be difficult, say so at the consultation. It is a reasonable thing to raise and it changes what we would recommend, since clear braces at £800 per arch work continuously whether you remember them or not.

Your treatment journey
-
1Step one: your consultationAround 45 minutes and free of charge. Dr Natasja examines your teeth, gums and bite, and asks what you want to change. She will tell you whether Lite is sufficient for your case, or whether you need i7 or comprehensive treatment.
-
2Step two: digital scan and ClinCheckA digital scan is taken, which is quick and considerably more comfortable than putty impressions. From that scan a stage by stage plan is produced showing how your teeth will move and where they will finish.
-
3Step three: seeing your predicted resultYou are shown a simulation of the intended final position before committing to anything.
This matters particularly with Lite, because it is where you find out whether fourteen aligners will get you where you want to be. If the result falls short, you can upgrade to comprehensive treatment at that point rather than after paying for a course that will not deliver. -
4Step four: your written planNumber of aligners, estimated timeline, total cost, whether refinements are included, retainer costs and finance options. Nothing proceeds until you have agreed.
-
5Step five: any preparatory treatmentDecay and gum disease are treated first, along with any hygiene work needed to start from a clean baseline.
-
6Step six: fitting your first alignersSmall tooth coloured attachments are usually bonded to some teeth, giving the aligners something to grip so pressure is applied in the right direction. They are removed at the end of treatment.
-
7Step seven: the treatment phaseChange aligners every one to two weeks as instructed. Review appointments every six to ten weeks to check progress and collect your next sets.
-
8Step eight: refinementsWhere the result needs fine tuning at the end, a short additional series may be provided. This is normal rather than a sign anything has gone wrong, and your plan will state whether it is included.
-
9Step nine: retainersFitted at the end and worn indefinitely. Covered properly below.
Retention is not optional
Teeth drift back after orthodontic treatment. This is normal biology rather than a failure of the treatment, and retainers are how the result is held.
Why this matters particularly for Lite patients
A meaningful proportion of Invisalign Lite cases are relapse cases. Patients who had braces years ago and whose teeth moved back because retention was not maintained.
If that is you, the same thing will happen again without retainers. Straightening the same teeth twice and then not retaining them properly is money spent twice for the same outcome.
What is involved
- Fixed retainer: a fine wire bonded behind the front teeth, £150 per arch
- Removable retainer: clear trays worn at night, from £400 for Vivera retainers
Which combination suits you depends on your case, and many patients have both.
For how long
Indefinitely. Most people reduce to a few nights a week after the first year, but it does not stop.
Ongoing cost
Retainers wear out and need replacing periodically. Fixed retainers occasionally debond and need re-bonding. A modest ongoing cost, and one we would rather you knew about before starting.

Invisalign Lite costs less than comprehensive treatment because fewer aligners are involved and the course is shorter. Your exact quote is given at your ClinCheck, alongside the simulation of your result.
What your quote includes
Your written plan will state clearly whether refinements and initial retainers are covered by the quoted fee. Worth checking this wherever you are quoted, since headline prices frequently exclude one or both.

Dr Natasja Kashyap
BDS · MSc Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics · MFDS RCS Edinburgh · Platinum Invisalign Provider · GDC 150054
Dr Natasja provides Invisalign at Croft Dental as a Platinum Provider, a status awarded on the number of cases completed each year.
That experience matters most on a page like this one. Treating across the full range, from minor i7 corrections to comprehensive cases, is what allows a reliable judgement about which option a case genuinely requires. It is the difference between prescribing what your teeth need and prescribing what fits your budget.
Her Master’s degree is in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics, which is relevant where Lite is the first stage of a wider cosmetic plan. The movement is planned around the restorative work that follows rather than separately from it, which frequently means less bonding or fewer veneers afterwards.
- Finance
Spread the cost of Invisalign Lite with finance
We offer finance on Invisalign through Tabeo so the cost can be spread across monthly payments. Interest-free options are available with no arrangement fees or hidden charges.
Applications take a few minutes and you will know the outcome quickly. We will show you exactly what your treatment would cost per month at your consultation.
Because Lite runs over around six months, monthly payments frequently align closely with the treatment period itself.

Frequently asked questions
Invisalign Lite is a shorter course of clear aligner treatment using fourteen aligners across both arches rather than the full comprehensive series. It uses the same aligners and technique as comprehensive Invisalign but is prescribed for mild to moderate cases requiring less tooth movement. Treatment typically takes around six months and costs less than comprehensive treatment.
Invisalign Lite costs less than comprehensive Invisalign because fewer aligners are used and the treatment period is shorter, and more than Invisalign i7, which uses only seven aligners. At Croft Dental the consultation is free and the ClinCheck treatment plan is £325, at which point an exact quote is given alongside a simulation of the predicted result.
Invisalign Lite typically takes around six months, though this varies with the amount of movement required and how consistently the aligners are worn. Treatment relies on the aligners being worn 20 to 22 hours a day, and reduced wear time extends the treatment period.
Invisalign Lite uses fourteen aligners across both arches and treats mild to moderate cases, typically over around six months. Invisalign Full has no practical limit on aligner numbers and treats comprehensive cases including significant crowding and bite correction, usually over twelve to eighteen months or longer. The appropriate option is determined by the amount of tooth movement required.
Invisalign Lite can correct mild to moderate crowding, particularly at the front of the mouth. Significant crowding requiring substantial tooth movement, or crowding involving the back teeth, generally requires comprehensive Invisalign or fixed braces. A digital scan determines which option is appropriate.
Yes, indefinitely. Teeth drift back towards their previous position after any orthodontic treatment, regardless of how short the treatment was. Retention usually involves a fixed wire bonded behind the front teeth at £150 per arch, removable retainers worn at night from £400, or both. Many Invisalign Lite cases are patients whose teeth relapsed after previous orthodontic treatment where retainers were not maintained.
The ClinCheck simulation shows the predicted final position before treatment begins, so any shortfall becomes apparent at that stage rather than at the end. Patients can then choose to upgrade to comprehensive Invisalign, which allows greater tooth movement. Where a case clearly requires more movement than Lite provides, comprehensive treatment is recommended from the outset.
