Our Practice Plan

Your examinations and hygiene appointments are covered by one fixed monthly payment, so looking after your teeth stops being a decision you have to keep making.

The Croft Dental practice plan spreads the cost of routine dental care across fixed monthly payments rather than paying at each appointment. Examinations and hygiene appointments are included, along with x-rays where clinically needed, and plan members receive a discount on other treatment. For patients attending regularly it works out cheaper than paying per visit. Paying per visit for two examinations at £55 each, two thirty minute hygiene appointments at £90 each and two x-rays at £15 each comes to £320 a year. The practice is at 64 Manchester Road in Wilmslow and has treated local families since 1974.

So, why do most people miss their check ups?

It is rarely an intentional decision. Most people fully intend to visit their dentist twice a year, yet significantly fewer actually do.

The reason is simple: routine check-ups are easy to delay. A reminder arrives during a busy week, or it feels like there is always a better time to book. Before long, eighteen months have passed, and a preventable issue has developed.

A dental plan removes that friction entirely.

Because your routine appointments are already covered, there is no financial hesitation or decision to weigh up each time. Caring for your teeth becomes automatic.

Why consistency matters

Plan members attend far more regularly than pay-as-you-go patients. That consistency is crucial, almost every major dental concern starts as a minor issue that a routine check-up would have caught early.

For instance, early decay can be treated with a £175 filling. Left unnoticed, it can escalate into a £650 root canal, a £750 crown, or even an extraction and implant.

Peace of mind over minor savings. While the cost savings are real and outlined below, the primary value of joining a plan is making continuous oral care effortless.

Where the plan is worth considerably more

If you need three or four hygiene appointments a year, the savings increase substantially. That applies to patients with a history of gum disease, implant patients and smokers, all of whom are generally seen every three to four months rather than every six.

At four hygiene appointments a year, paying per visit comes to £470 before any other treatment.

Is the plan right for you?

It usually makes sense if you

  • Attend for check ups and hygiene appointments regularly
  • Would rather budget monthly than pay in larger amounts at each visit
  • Have a history of gum disease and need more frequent hygiene appointments
  • Have implants, crowns or extensive restorative work that needs monitoring
  • Have found it difficult to keep on top of appointments in the past

It may not suit you if you

  • Attend infrequently and prefer to pay only when you come in
  • Are having a course of treatment now but do not intend to attend regularly afterwards

We will tell you honestly

If you attend once every three years, the plan will not save you money and we will say so rather than sign you up to something that does not benefit you.

That is not a difficult conversation for us to have. A patient on a plan they do not use cancels within a year, and nobody gains from that.

If you have implants

Worth a specific mention, since implant maintenance is not optional and a good number of our patients have had implant treatment here.

Implants can be lost to peri-implantitis, an infection of the gum and bone around the implant, in much the same way natural teeth are lost to gum disease. It is largely preventable, and prevention means regular professional cleaning and monitoring.

Implant patients are generally seen more frequently than the standard six month interval. A plan covering three or four hygiene appointments a year is usually the sensible option, and it protects a considerable investment.

A full arch case represents several thousand pounds. Peri-implantitis is the most common way that gets undone.

What the plan does not cover

Worth being clear about, since plans that overstate what they include cause problems later.

Not included

  • Restorative treatment including fillings, crowns, bridges, extractions and root canal treatment
  • Cosmetic treatment including whitening, bonding and veneers
  • Implant treatment
  • Orthodontics and Invisalign
  • Laboratory work
  • Referrals to other practices

How the plan and finance work together

They cover different things, and most patients who need both use both.

  • The practice plan: This covers routine care. Examinations, hygiene appointments and x-rays, spread across the year. It is a membership rather than credit.
  • Finance through Tabeo: This covers larger one off treatment. Implants, Invisalign, cosmetic work. It is a credit agreement with a lender.

A patient on the plan having implant treatment would typically continue their monthly plan payment for routine care and take finance separately for the implant treatment. The two run alongside each other rather than replacing one another.

Frequently asked questions

A dental practice plan is a membership arrangement where patients pay a fixed monthly amount covering routine dental care, typically including examinations, hygiene appointments and x-rays, rather than paying at each appointment. Plan members usually also receive a discount on other treatments. It is a membership rather than insurance or credit.

For patients who attend regularly, a plan usually costs less than paying per visit, with the saving increasing for those needing more frequent hygiene appointments. It also removes the decision about whether to spend money on an appointment each time, which is why plan patients tend to attend more consistently. For patients who rarely attend, paying per visit is likely to be cheaper.

The plan covers routine dental care, including examinations, hygiene appointments and x-rays where clinically needed. It does not cover restorative treatment such as fillings, crowns and extractions, cosmetic treatment, implants or orthodontics, though plan members receive a discount on these. Exact inclusions depend on which tier is selected.

Yes. The plan operates on a monthly basis with a notice period rather than a fixed term contract. Patients wishing to cancel should contact the practice.

No. A practice plan is a membership arrangement with a specific dental practice, covering routine care at that practice for a monthly fee. Dental insurance is a policy with an insurer that reimburses the cost of treatment, usually up to defined limits and often with exclusions. The two work quite differently.

Practices usually require patients to have completed any outstanding treatment before joining a plan, since the plan covers routine maintenance rather than existing treatment needs. Any treatment required is assessed and quoted at an examination beforehand.

Implant patients benefit particularly from a plan, since implants require more frequent professional cleaning than natural teeth. Peri-implantitis, an infection of the gum and bone around an implant, is the main cause of implant loss after successful placement and is largely preventable through regular maintenance. A tier including three or four hygiene appointments a year is generally recommended.

Yes. The practice plan covers routine care through a monthly membership, while finance through Tabeo spreads the cost of larger individual treatments such as implants or Invisalign. Patients undergoing major treatment typically maintain their plan for ongoing routine care and finance the treatment separately.
