Facial Aesthetics in Wilmslow

Carried out by dental clinicians who work with facial anatomy every day, in a CQC registered practice rather than a salon.

Croft Dental on Manchester Road in Wilmslow offers facial aesthetic treatments alongside dental care, including anti-wrinkle treatment for lines around the forehead, brow and eyes, and dermal fillers for volume loss and facial contouring. Anti-wrinkle treatment starts from £250 for two areas, £285 for three and £325 for four. Treatments are carried out by qualified dental clinicians in a Care Quality Commission registered setting. All treatment follows a face to face consultation and assessment, and is available only to patients aged 18 and over.

So, why would you have this done at a dentist?

It is a fair question, and the answer comes down to two things: anatomy and regulation.

Anatomy first.

Dental clinicians spend their entire careers working with the structures of the face. The muscles, the nerves, the blood vessels, the underlying bone, and how the whole thing moves when somebody speaks and smiles. It is the same territory, studied in considerable detail as part of the qualification.

They also administer facial injections routinely, every working day, with a level of familiarity that comes from repetition rather than from a weekend course.

Regulation matters more than people realise.

Croft Dental is registered with and inspected by the Care Quality Commission. Clinicians are registered with the General Dental Council, trained in medical emergencies, carry emergency drugs, and maintain full clinical records and professional indemnity.

The facial aesthetics sector is very lightly regulated by comparison. Treatment is legally available from providers with no medical background at all, in premises with no clinical registration and no obligation to keep records.

That difference is not marketing. It is the practical distinction between a regulated healthcare setting and an unregulated one, and it becomes extremely relevant in the rare event that something goes wrong.

And there is a third reason, if you are already a patient here.

Where somebody is having cosmetic dental treatment, the teeth, lips and lower face are being assessed together anyway. Facial aesthetics sits naturally within that rather than separately from it.

The treatments we offer

Anti-wrinkle treatment

Injectable treatment used to soften the appearance of lines caused by repeated facial movement, most commonly across the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes. Treatment involves a prescription only medicine, which requires a face to face consultation with a prescriber before it can be provided. Results develop over the following days and are temporary.
Two areas £250 · Three areas £285 · Four areas £325

Dermal fillers

Injectable gels, most commonly based on hyaluronic acid, used to restore volume lost with age, soften deeper folds, and contour areas of the face. Effects are visible immediately and are temporary, typically lasting several months to a year depending on the product and the area treated.
Priced on consultation

Every treatment starts with a consultation

This is a legal requirement rather than a formality, and it is worth understanding why.

Anti-wrinkle treatment involves a prescription only medicine. It can only be prescribed following a face to face assessment by an appropriate prescriber, who must satisfy themselves that the treatment is suitable for you specifically.

Prescribing remotely, or prescribing in advance for whoever happens to turn up, is not acceptable practice. If a provider offers you treatment without that assessment, that tells you something.

What the consultation covers

  • Your medical history, medications and allergies
  • What you want to change and why
  • An assessment of your facial anatomy and movement
  • What is realistically achievable, and what is not
  • The risks and possible side effects
  • Costs, in writing
  • A period to consider before deciding

Treatment is not carried out at the consultation as standard. Some patients proceed the same day where clinically appropriate, but there is no expectation of it, and a period to consider the information is generally sensible.

Am I a suitable candidate?

You must be 18 or over. Since 2021 it has been a criminal offence in England to provide botulinum toxin or cosmetic dermal fillers to anyone under 18, including where a parent consents. There are no exceptions for cosmetic purposes.

Treatment is not suitable if you

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have an infection or inflammation in the area to be treated
  • Have certain neuromuscular conditions
  • Have a known allergy to any component of the product
  • Have had a previous adverse reaction to a similar treatment

We will need to assess further if you

  • Take blood thinning medication, which increases bruising
  • Have an autoimmune condition
  • Have a history of cold sores, where treatment is near the lips
  • Have had previous facial aesthetic treatment, particularly permanent or semi permanent fillers
  • Are seeking treatment while under significant emotional distress

On expectations

Facial aesthetic treatment softens and refreshes. It does not stop ageing, it does not replicate surgery, and it will not make anybody look like a photograph they have brought in.

If what somebody wants is not achievable, or would not suit them, we will say so and decline the treatment.

That is not us being difficult. Practitioners who treat regardless of whether it is appropriate are a considerable part of why this sector has the reputation it does.

Risks and side effects

Facial aesthetic treatment is a medical procedure and it carries risks. Any provider who does not tell you that is not giving you the information you need to make a decision.

Common and temporary

  • Redness, swelling and tenderness at the injection sites
  • Bruising, more likely on blood thinning medication
  • Headache following anti-wrinkle treatment
  • Small lumps following filler, which usually settle

Less common

  • Asymmetry, which may require adjustment
  • Drooping of the eyelid or brow following anti-wrinkle treatment, which is temporary but can last several weeks
  • Infection
  • Lumps or nodules that persist and require treatment
  • Allergic reaction

Rare but serious, associated with dermal filler

Vascular occlusion, where filler enters or compresses a blood vessel, restricting blood supply. This is a medical emergency requiring immediate treatment and can result in tissue damage or, very rarely, visual loss.

This is the specific reason it matters who treats you and where. A practitioner must recognise it immediately, hold the drug used to reverse hyaluronic acid filler, and know how to manage it. Not every provider offering filler does.

What we do about it

  • Full medical history taken before any treatment
  • Treatment carried out in a CQC registered clinical setting
  • Clinicians trained in medical emergencies with emergency drugs on site
  • Written aftercare and a contact number for concerns
  • Review appointments where appropriate

All risks relevant to you will be discussed at your consultation before you decide anything.

Your treatment journey

  1. 1
    Step one: consultation and assessment
Medical history, discussion of what you want to change, assessment of your facial anatomy, and an honest conversation about what is achievable. Written costs provided.
  2. 2
    Step two: time to consider
A period between consultation and treatment to think it over. There is no pressure to book on the day.
  3. 3
    Step three: treatment
Photographs are usually taken beforehand for your records. The area is cleaned, and treatment is carried out using fine needles or cannulas.

Most appointments take between twenty and forty five minutes depending on the areas treated. Discomfort is generally described as brief and mild, and topical numbing cream can be applied for filler treatment.
  4. 4
    Step four: aftercare
Written aftercare instructions are provided, along with a contact number should you have any concerns.

Instructions usually include avoiding exercise, alcohol and extremes of temperature for a period, and not rubbing the treated area.
  5. 5
    Step five: review
A follow up appointment is offered, typically around two weeks after anti-wrinkle treatment, to assess the result and make any adjustment.

How long results last

Anti-wrinkle treatment. Effects develop over several days, are usually fully apparent within two weeks, and typically last three to four months. The effect wears off gradually rather than stopping abruptly.

Dermal fillers. Results are visible immediately, though swelling can take a week or two to settle. Longevity depends on the product used and the area treated, and typically ranges from six months to around eighteen months.

Neither is permanent, and that is deliberate. Temporary treatments allow the result to be adjusted, or simply stopped, as your face changes over time.

Spread the cost of treatment with finance

We offer finance on larger treatment plans through Tabeo so the cost can be spread across monthly payments. Interest-free options are available with no arrangement fees or hidden charges.
Facial aesthetic treatment on its own generally falls below the finance threshold, though it may qualify as part of a larger combined plan.

Frequently asked questions

Dental clinicians study facial anatomy in detail as part of their training, including the muscles, nerves and blood vessels of the face, and they administer facial injections routinely. Dental practices are also registered with and inspected by the Care Quality Commission, with clinicians trained in medical emergencies and holding professional indemnity, which is not required of all providers in the facial aesthetics sector.

Yes. Anti-wrinkle treatment involves a prescription only medicine, which may only be prescribed following a face to face assessment by an appropriate prescriber. The consultation also covers medical history, suitability, realistic outcomes, risks and costs, and provides a period to consider the information before deciding.

Eighteen. Since 2021 it has been a criminal offence in England to administer botulinum toxin or cosmetic dermal fillers to anyone under the age of 18 for cosmetic purposes, including where a parent or guardian consents.

Anti-wrinkle treatment typically lasts three to four months, with effects developing over several days and reaching full effect within around two weeks. Dermal fillers produce immediate results and typically last from six months to around eighteen months, depending on the product used and the area treated. Neither treatment is permanent.

Common side effects include redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising at the injection site, and small lumps that usually settle. Less commonly, persistent nodules, infection or allergic reaction can occur. Rarely, filler can enter or compress a blood vessel, a complication called vascular occlusion, which is a medical emergency requiring immediate treatment. Treatment should be carried out in a clinical setting by a practitioner able to recognise and manage this.

No. Facial aesthetic treatments are not carried out during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, as there is insufficient evidence regarding safety in these circumstances. Treatment can be deferred until afterwards.

Discomfort is generally described as brief and mild, since very fine needles are used. Topical numbing cream can be applied before dermal filler treatment. Some tenderness, redness and swelling at the injection sites is normal afterwards and usually settles within a day or two.

At Croft Dental, anti-wrinkle treatment costs £250 for two areas, £285 for three areas and £325 for four areas. All treatment follows a face to face consultation and assessment, and written costs are provided before treatment is agreed.
