General Dentistry in Wilmslow

Routine care from a practice that has been on Manchester Road since 1974. Unhurried appointments, honest advice, and no lectures.

General dentistry covers the routine care that keeps teeth and gums healthy over a lifetime, including examinations, x-rays, hygiene appointments, fillings, crowns, extractions and root canal treatment. Croft Dental on Manchester Road in Wilmslow has provided general dental care since 1974 and is currently accepting new patients. The practice is private and does not offer NHS treatment. A new patient examination is £85 including x-rays, currently available at £40, with routine examinations at £55 and children's examinations at £30. No referral is required to register, and finance is available on larger treatment plans through Tabeo.

So, why does routine dentistry actually matter?

Because almost every expensive dental problem started as a cheap one.

That is the whole argument, and it holds up better than most things said about dentistry.

Decay that becomes a filling is straightforward. A filling at £175, done in one appointment, and you forget about it. Decay left to progress becomes root canal treatment at £650, then a crown at £750, and sometimes an extraction and an implant after that. Same tooth. Different decade. Considerably different sum.

Gum disease follows the same pattern, only more quietly. Early gum inflammation is completely reversible with proper cleaning and a hygiene appointment. Advanced gum disease destroys the bone that holds the teeth in, and that bone does not come back. It is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults, and it is almost entirely painless until it is not.

Regular check ups exist to catch these things at the stage where they are quick, cheap and unremarkable to deal with.

And if it has been years since you last went

That is common, and it needs no explanation. A significant proportion of our new patients have been away from dentistry for a long time, usually after a difficult experience somewhere else.

Nobody here will comment on the gap, and nobody will comment on what we find. Come in, let us have a look, and we will work out a plan at a pace that suits you.

The treatments we provide

Dental examinations and check ups

A full assessment of your teeth, gums, bite and soft tissues, including routine screening for oral cancer. Usually every six months, though the interval is set according to your needs rather than a standard schedule.
From £55

Dental x-rays

Taken when clinically necessary to see what an examination cannot, including decay between teeth and bone levels around the roots. We take them when there is a reason to, not routinely at every visit.
From £15

Dental hygiene and gum treatment

Professional cleaning, removal of hardened tartar, and treatment for gum disease. Airflow stain removal is available as an addition.
From £90

Crowns

Where a tooth is too damaged for a filling, a crown covers and protects it. Made in a laboratory and fitted over the prepared tooth.
From £750

Fillings

Tooth coloured composite fillings to repair decay and restore damaged teeth.
From £175 per surface

Bridges

Replacing a missing tooth by attaching a false tooth to the teeth either side. An alternative to an implant, though it requires those adjacent teeth to be prepared.
From £750 per unit

Root canal treatment

Treating infection inside the tooth so it can be saved rather than removed. Carried out by a clinician with a Master's degree in Endodontics.
From £650

Extractions

Removing a tooth where it cannot be saved. We will always discuss what happens next before removing anything.
From £220

Dentures

Removable replacements for missing teeth, made to fit and designed to look natural.
From £400

Sports mouthguards

Custom made from impressions of your teeth, which fit and protect considerably better than anything bought over the counter.
From £80

Emergency appointments

For pain, swelling, broken teeth and lost fillings.
From £50

How often should you come in?

Most patients are seen every six months. That is a sensible default rather than a rule.

Some people need seeing every three or four months, usually where there is a history of gum disease, high decay risk, or a lot of restorative work to monitor.

Others with excellent oral health and no history of problems can safely go longer.

Your clinician will recommend an interval based on your assessment rather than applying the same schedule to everybody. National guidance supports exactly this approach, and it is worth knowing that a practice recalling everyone at six months regardless is not following it.

Who we treat

Nervous patients

A good number of the people we see every week are nervous, and several of our five star reviews come from patients who arrived anxious and now attend without a second thought.

  • We allow longer appointments so nothing is rushed
  • We explain everything before it happens and stop when you ask us to
  • We agree a signal so you can pause treatment without having to speak
  • We will never lecture anybody about the state of their teeth
  • We will see you for a first visit where nothing happens except a conversation, if that is what it takes

Tell us when you book and it goes on your notes before you arrive.

Families and children

We treat children as well as adults, and families can be registered together so appointments are arranged on the same day where possible.

Bringing children early, before anything is wrong, makes a substantial difference to how they feel about dentistry later. First visits for young children are short and gentle, usually a ride in the chair and a count of the teeth.

Children’s examinations are £30.

What happens at a routine examination

  • Your history first: any changes to your health or medication since we last saw you, and anything you have noticed yourself.
  • Examination of the teeth: checking for decay, wear, cracks, and the condition of existing fillings, crowns and other restorations.
  • Examination of the gums: assessing gum health and measuring where necessary. Gum disease is largely painless in its early stages, which is precisely why it needs checking rather than waiting to be noticed.
  • Oral cancer screening: a check of the soft tissues of the mouth, tongue, throat and neck. Routine, quick, and one of the most useful things a dental examination does. Early detection changes outcomes substantially.
  • Bite assessment: how your teeth meet, and whether wear patterns suggest grinding.
  • X-rays where needed: taken when there is a clinical reason.
  • A conversation about what we found: explained in plain terms, with any recommended treatment set out along with costs before you agree to anything.

Being a private practice

Croft Dental does not provide NHS treatment. Worth stating plainly rather than leaving people to discover it when they call.

What that means in practice

  • Longer appointments, since we are not working to NHS time constraints
  • A wider range of materials and treatment options
  • Continuity, in that you see the same clinicians rather than whoever is available
  • Fees that reflect the time, training and materials involved

What it costs

Our fees are published in full. You receive a written treatment plan with all costs before any work begins, and finance is available on larger treatment plans through Tabeo.

If you would rather spread the cost of routine care across the year than pay per appointment, our practice plan covers regular check ups and hygiene visits for a fixed monthly amount.

Where to find us

Croft Dental sits at 64 Manchester Road, on the Handforth side of Wilmslow town centre. Coming up from The Carrs, we are north east along Manchester Road. If you reach Handforth Dean, you have gone too far.

We are around ten minutes on foot from Wilmslow station, five minutes from Handforth, and roughly ten minutes from Alderley Edge up the A34.

Patients register with us from Alderley Edge, Handforth, Styal, Prestbury, Mottram St Andrew, Knutsford, Macclesfield, Poynton, Mobberley, Bramhall, Cheadle and Hale.

For routine care, proximity genuinely matters. A practice you can get to easily is a practice you will actually attend, which over twenty years is worth considerably more than any individual treatment.

General dentistry at Croft Dental is supported by postgraduate expertise across the team, which matters more for routine care than it first appears.

Root canal treatment is carried out by a clinician with a Master’s in Endodontics. Restorative work is supported by Dr Natasja’s Master’s in Prosthodontics. Implant work by Dr Nikhil’s Master’s in Implant Dentistry from the University of Manchester.

In practical terms, that means complex treatment found at a routine check up does not need referring out. A cracked tooth, a failing root canal, a tooth that cannot be saved. All of it is handled here, by the same team, rather than starting a new relationship with a stranger halfway through.

The practice has been at 64 Manchester Road since 1974, treating several generations of some local families. Continuity matters more in general dentistry than anywhere else, because good decisions depend on somebody knowing your history.

Spread the cost of treatment with finance

We offer finance on larger treatment plans through Tabeo so the cost can be spread across monthly payments. Interest-free options are available with no arrangement fees or hidden charges.

Applications take a few minutes and you will know the outcome quickly. We will show you exactly what your treatment would cost per month at your consultation.

For routine care, our practice plan spreads the cost of examinations and hygiene appointments across fixed monthly payments instead.

We're Welcoming New Patients

We warmly welcome new patients to our practice. If it’s been a while since your last visit, if dental visits make you feel anxious, if you’ve recently moved to Wilmslow, or if you’re simply seeking a team that truly listens to your concerns, you’ll find a supportive and gentle environment here with us.
During your first appointment, we take the time to conduct a complete evaluation of your teeth, gums, and overall oral health. We will listen carefully to your goals, answer any questions, and collaboratively create a treatment plan tailored specifically to you.

New Patient Offer — Brunner Court

"Nikhil always takes the time to explain everything. It does not feel like going to the dentist. It feels more like catching up with people who genuinely care how you are."

Frequently asked questions

Most patients are seen every six months, though the appropriate interval varies. Patients with a history of gum disease, high decay risk or extensive restorative work may need appointments every three to four months, while those with excellent oral health may safely attend less frequently. The interval should be recommended by the clinician based on individual risk rather than applied uniformly.

A routine dental examination includes a review of medical history, examination of the teeth for decay, wear and cracks, assessment of gum health, screening of the soft tissues for signs of oral cancer, and assessment of the bite. X-rays are taken where clinically necessary. Any findings and recommended treatment are then explained, along with costs.

No. Croft Dental is a private practice and does not provide NHS treatment. A new patient examination is £85 including x-rays, currently available at £40, with routine examinations at £55. Patients receive a written treatment plan with all costs before treatment begins, and finance is available on larger treatment plans.

No referral is required to register as a new patient at a dental practice. Patients can contact the practice directly by phone, email or online. Referrals are only needed when one dentist sends a patient to another for a specific piece of treatment, such as complex implant work.

Dental x-rays use very low doses of radiation and are considered safe when taken appropriately. They are only taken when there is a clinical reason, since they reveal problems an examination cannot detect, including decay between teeth and bone levels around the roots. The frequency is determined by individual risk rather than taken routinely at every appointment.

Book an examination. A long gap between appointments is common and does not require any explanation. The dentist will assess the current condition of the teeth and gums and set out what treatment is needed, which can usually be spread over a period rather than completed all at once.

Composite fillings at Croft Dental start from £175 per surface. The final cost depends on how many surfaces of the tooth are involved, since a small single surface filling and a large restoration rebuilding most of the tooth are different pieces of work. A written estimate is always provided before treatment begins.

Yes. Croft Dental treats children alongside adults, with children's examinations at £30. Families can be registered together so appointments are arranged on the same day where possible. Bringing children early, before anything is wrong, makes a substantial difference to how they feel about dental visits later in life.
