Invisalign in Wilmslow
Clear aligners from a Platinum Invisalign Provider. See a simulation of your finished result before you commit to anything.
Invisalign straightens teeth using a series of clear, removable aligners worn over the teeth and changed every one to two weeks. The aligners are close fitting and difficult to notice in everyday situations, and they are removed for eating, drinking and cleaning. At Croft Dental on Manchester Road in Wilmslow, treatment is led by Dr Natasja Kashyap, a Platinum Invisalign Provider, a status awarded on the number of cases successfully completed. Treatment typically takes three to eighteen months depending on the movement required, with aligners worn 20 to 22 hours a day. Consultations are free, the ClinCheck treatment plan is £325, and finance is available through Tabeo.
So, what has actually changed about Invisalign?
Quite a lot, and it is worth knowing if you last looked into it a few years ago and decided against it.
The aligners are considerably less visible than they were. Treatment times for many cases have come down sharply. And digital planning has moved on to the point where you can see a simulation of your finished teeth before you have paid for anything beyond the plan itself.
That last part is the one most people do not realise is available.
Here is how it works.
You wear a series of custom made aligners, each slightly different from the last, moving to the next set every one to two weeks. Each one applies gentle, controlled pressure that shifts the teeth a small amount, and over the course of treatment those small movements add up to the planned result.
The aligners are made from a clear medical grade thermoplastic that fits closely over the teeth. In normal conversation, meetings and photographs, most people will not notice them.
And now the part that is less frequently advertised.
They are removable, which is the main appeal and also the main risk. You take them out to eat, to drink anything other than water, and to brush your teeth. Then they go straight back in.
They need to be worn 20 to 22 hours a day. Less than that and treatment slows down or stops progressing altogether. Removable means convenient, but it also means the outcome depends considerably more on you than fixed braces do.
We would rather say that at the outset than six months in.
What Invisalign can correct
- Crowded teeth: Where there is not enough space in the arch and teeth overlap or sit rotated.
- Gaps and spacing: Closing spaces between teeth, which frequently produces a better and more conservative result than disguising them with bonding or veneers.
- Overbite: Where the upper front teeth sit too far over the lower ones.
- Underbite: Milder cases respond well. More severe skeletal cases may need a different approach.
- Crossbite: Where upper and lower teeth do not meet correctly across the arch.
- Open bite: Where the front teeth do not meet when the back teeth are together.
Where Invisalign is not the right answer
- Severe skeletal discrepancies requiring jaw surgery
- Complex bite problems better treated with fixed appliances
- Growing children, where different appliances are appropriate
Dr Natasja will assess your bite and tell you honestly if your case falls outside what Invisalign does well, and what would be needed instead.
Am I a suitable candidate?
Usually suitable if you
- Have mild to moderate crowding, spacing or bite issues
- Have healthy teeth and gums, or issues that can be treated first
- Have all your adult teeth
- Are prepared to wear the aligners 20 to 22 hours a day
- Are prepared to wear retainers afterwards, indefinitely
We will need to assess further if you
- Have active gum disease or decay, which must be treated first
- Have significant bone loss around the teeth, which affects how safely they can be moved
- Have a severe skeletal discrepancy, which may require a different approach
- Have crowns, bridges or implants, which do not move like natural teeth and change how a case is planned
- Smoke, since aligners stain and gum health matters throughout treatment
An honest word about wear time
This is worth being direct about, because it is the single biggest predictor of whether Invisalign delivers what it promises.
Invisalign works extremely well for people who wear the aligners as instructed. It does not work well for people who do not, and no amount of good planning changes that.
If you suspect you would leave them out at work, over dinner, at weekends, say so at the consultation. It is not a failure. It simply points towards fixed braces, which work continuously whether you remember them or not, and we offer those too.
Far better to have that conversation now than nine months into a treatment that is not progressing.
Your Invisalign treatment options
Invisalign is not a single product. The right version depends on how much movement your case actually needs.

Which one you need
Determined by your scan and your case, not by budget.
Patients occasionally arrive asking for i7 because it is cheapest, and if the case needs more movement than seven aligners can deliver, we will say so rather than provide a compromised result. Equally, plenty of people are quoted comprehensive treatment elsewhere for cases that Lite would handle perfectly well.

Your treatment journey
-
1Step one: your consultationAround 45 minutes and free of charge. Dr Natasja examines your teeth, gums and bite, and asks what you want to change. She will tell you whether Invisalign suits your case, roughly how long it would take and which treatment type you would need.
She will also ask, directly, whether you can realistically wear aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day. It is a fair question and worth answering honestly. -
2Step two: digital scan and ClinCheckA digital scan of your teeth is taken, which is quick and considerably more comfortable than the old putty impressions.
From that scan, a stage by stage plan is produced showing exactly how your teeth will move and where they will finish. This is the ClinCheck, and it costs £325. -
3Step three: seeing your predicted resultYou are shown a simulation of the intended final position before committing to treatment.
This is one of the genuine advantages of Invisalign over fixed braces. You see the endpoint before you start, and if it is not what you were picturing, that conversation happens now rather than at the end. -
4Step four: your written planTreatment type, number of aligners, estimated timeline, total cost, whether refinements are included, retainer costs and finance options. Nothing proceeds until you have agreed to all of it.
-
5Step five: any preparatory treatmentDecay and gum disease are treated first. Aligners are not fitted over untreated problems.
-
6Step six: fitting your first alignersSmall tooth coloured attachments are usually bonded to some teeth. These give the aligners something to grip so pressure is applied in the right direction, and they are removed at the end of treatment.
You are given several sets at once and shown how to insert and remove them. Removing them is the fiddly part at first and everybody gets the hang of it within a few days. -
7Step seven: the treatment phaseChange to the next aligner every one to two weeks as instructed. Review appointments every six to ten weeks to check progress and collect your next sets. These are short appointments.
If you fall behind, tell us rather than push on. Aligners that no longer fit properly will not track the teeth, and continuing regardless makes it worse. It is usually straightforward to correct if caught early. -
8Step eight: refinementsMany cases need a short additional series of aligners at the end to fine tune the result. This is normal rather than a sign anything has gone wrong, and your plan will state whether it is included in your fee.
-
9Step nine: retainersFitted at the end and worn indefinitely. Covered properly below, because it matters.
Retainers, and why they are not optional
Teeth drift back. Not sometimes, not occasionally. Left without retention, teeth move towards their original position, and this is the single most common reason orthodontic results are lost.
Retainers are not an extra at the end of treatment. They are how the result is kept.
What is involved
- Fixed retainer: a fine wire bonded discreetly behind the front teeth, £150 per arch
- Removable retainer: clear trays worn overnight, from £400 for Vivera retainers
Which combination suits you depends on your case, and many patients have both.
For how long
Indefinitely. Most people reduce to wearing removable retainers a few nights a week after the first year, but the wearing does not stop entirely.
Ongoing cost
Retainers wear out and need replacing periodically. Fixed retainers occasionally debond and need re-bonding. It is a modest ongoing cost, and it is the cost of keeping what you have paid for.
If you had braces before and your teeth moved back
That is exactly what happened, and it is extremely common. It is also not your fault if nobody explained retention properly at the time. Retreatment cases are frequently quick, and this time it will be explained properly before you start.

Dr Natasja Kashyap
BDS · MSc Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics · MFDS RCS Edinburgh · Platinum Invisalign Provider · GDC 150054
Invisalign awards provider tiers based on the number of cases a clinician completes each year. Platinum sits in the upper tier.
In practice that means Dr Natasja has treated a wide range of cases, including complex ones that lower volume providers refer to or decline. It also means she can judge reliably which treatment type your case actually needs, rather than defaulting to the cheapest option or the most expensive one.
Her Master’s degree is in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics, which matters more here than it first appears. Where alignment is the opening stage of a wider cosmetic plan, the movement is planned around the restorative work that follows rather than separately from it. Straightening the teeth first frequently means far less bonding, or fewer veneers, or none at all.
If fixed braces or a specialist referral would serve you better, she will say so.
- Finance
Spread the cost of Invisalign with finance
We offer finance on Invisalign through Tabeo so the cost can be spread across monthly payments. Interest-free options are available with no arrangement fees or hidden charges.
Applications take a few minutes and you will know the outcome quickly. We will show you exactly what your treatment would cost per month at your consultation.
Because treatment runs over months anyway, monthly payments frequently align closely with the treatment period itself.

Frequently asked questions
Invisalign is priced by treatment type rather than per aligner, so the cost depends on how much movement a case requires. At Croft Dental the consultation is free, and the ClinCheck digital treatment plan costs £325, at which point an exact quote is given alongside a simulation of the predicted result. Finance is available through Tabeo.
Treatment time depends on how much movement is required. Minor corrections using Invisalign i7 can be completed in around three months. Moderate cases typically take six to twelve months, and comprehensive cases eighteen months or more. Wearing the aligners for the recommended 20 to 22 hours a day is the main factor determining whether treatment stays on schedule.
Invisalign aligners are clear and close fitting, and in most everyday situations including conversation, meetings and photographs they are very difficult to detect. Small tooth coloured attachments bonded to some teeth during treatment are also designed to be discreet. Patients are aware of the aligners themselves, but most people around them do not notice.
Invisalign is not usually painful, though most patients experience pressure or mild soreness for a day or two after changing to a new aligner, which indicates the teeth are moving. This settles as the teeth adjust. Any discomfort is generally managed with ordinary painkillers if needed.
Yes, indefinitely. Teeth drift back towards their previous position after orthodontic treatment, and retainers are what prevent this. Retention usually involves a fixed wire bonded behind the front teeth at £150 per arch, removable retainers worn at night from £400, or both. Failing to wear retainers is the most common reason orthodontic results are lost.
No. Aligners must be removed for eating and for drinking anything other than cold water. Hot drinks can distort the plastic, and food particles trapped beneath an aligner sit against the tooth for hours. Teeth should be brushed before the aligners are replaced, and time out of the mouth counts against the daily wear requirement.
Neither is universally better. Invisalign is considerably more discreet, removable for eating and cleaning, and generally more comfortable, but it relies on being worn 20 to 22 hours a day. Fixed braces work continuously without depending on the patient and remain more effective for severe crowding, significant bite correction and complex movements. The right choice depends on the case and the individual.
Yes, and relapse cases are among the most common Invisalign treatments in adults. Because the teeth were previously in the correct position, the movement required is often modest, making these cases relatively quick to treat. Retention afterwards is essential, since the same drift will otherwise occur again.
